Two killed in 4-vehicle collision in Menumbok

MENUMBOK: A 23-year-old motorcyclist and a 73-year-old car passenger were killed in four-vehicle crash involving a lorry, a car and two motorcycles at Km 41, Jalan Beaufort-Menumbok, on Sunday.

The male motorcyclist was identified as Mohd Asyraf Matrudi from Sipitang and the woman passenger as Fatimah Apong from Menumbok.

District Police Chief DSP Ismail Abdullah said the incident happened at 3.45pm at the Jalan Kilugus Tangulian intersection.

He said the lorry and car with three passengers were travelling from the direction of Beaufort towards Menumbok, while the two motorcycles, including a pillion rider, were travelling from the direction of Menumbok towards Beaufort.

Read more “On approaching the intersection, the lorry suddenly slowed down and tried to enter the intersection on the right, causing the car to hit its back right side, overturned and hitting two motorcycles coming from the opposite direction,” he said.

The lorry driver escaped injuries, and both deceased victims died while receiving treatment at the Kuala Penyu Hospital.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) Road Transport Act 1987.
