KINABATANGAN: Two primary schools here have been temporarily closed for a week for sanitisation after a pupil was confirmed to have contracted hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD).

The affected schools are SK Kota Kinabatangan and SK Paris 3 here.

District Education Officer Dalmansa Tahil said the situation remains under control with only one confirmed case and urged the public not to panic.

He said the closure was in line with advice from the Kinabatangan Area Health Office under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.

During the closure, home-based teaching and learning will be implemented, and parents are advised to seek immediate treatment if their children show symptoms of HFMD.
