Two men aged 32 and 38 have been detained in Cyprus suspected of being involved in terrorist activities, Cypriot state broadcaster RIKNews reported on Saturday.

Police said that the men are of Palestinian origin. Officers seized materials that can be used to manufacture explosive devices from a flat in the port city of Larnaca.

Officials stated that both detainees have so far refused to cooperate with the investigating authorities.

As part of the investigation, searches had previously been carried out near the British military base at Akrotiri, during which similar items were seized. In March, an Iranian-made drone crashed in the region, causing damage.

According to the police, the investigations are continuing in cooperation with international partners.
