TAWAU: Two men suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol were arrested during Ops Mabuk on Jalan Chong Thien Vun, here, late Saturday.

Tawau District Police Chief, ACP Jasmin Hussin said 49 and 62-year-old men were both found positive during initial screening using the SD2+ tool.

“They were then taken to the District Traffic Enforcement Investigation Division (BSPT) at IPD Tawau for a breath test using the Evidential Analyzer (EBAII).

“As a result, both men tested positive for alcohol content in their blood, exceeding the prescribed limit,” he said on Monday.

Read more He added that the case was investigated under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Earlier, in the operation, he said, some 38 individuals were checked involving 33 vehicles and seven summons notices were issued for various offences.

Among them were driver’s licence offences, side mirrors, not installing motorcycle lights, seat belts and expired vehicle insurance.

The Integrated Operation from 11pm to 1.30am was carried out by BSPT, Narcotics Crime Investigation Division, Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division and Tawau Police Station personnel.

The operation involved 13 members and officers, led by ASP Jafri Abdul Hamid.

Jasmin said Tawau police would continue to intensify operations and take strict action against drivers who drive under the influence of alcohol.
