Kota Kinabalu: Two Pakistani men were jailed a total of six months each by the Sessions Court for violating the conditions of their Temporary Work Visit Passes which only allowed them to be in West Malaysia.
Imran Uddin, 37, and Azmi Khan, 38, pleaded guilty before Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim to committing the offences at 12.15am on Nov 10, 2023 in a rented house at Jalan Kg Banjar, Keningau.
The duo were sentenced to two months’ jail each for violating the conditions of the Temporary Work Visit Passes issued to them, respectively, which only allowed them to enter West Malaysia.
The offence under Rule 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 carries a jail term of up to six months or fine of up to RM1,000 or both, on conviction.

The offence under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, provides for a jail term of up to five years, or a fine of up to RM10,000, on conviction.
Counsel Erveana Ansari, representing Imran and Azmi, requested a lenient sentence.
Immigration Department prosecuting officer Abu Sopian Karate applied for a deterrent sentence as a lesson to Imran and Azmi and to would-be offenders.
The court ordered Imran and Azmi to serve their respective sentence concurrently from the date of their arrest.
