Two podcasters remanded over alleged racial, religious sensitivity breach

KLANG: Two podcast producers have been remanded for two days to assist in police investigations into a podcast episode that allegedly touched on sensitive racial and religious issues, The Vibes reported.

The Klang Magistrate’s Court granted the two-day remand order on Friday following the arrest of the two men on Thursday.

Police initiated the probe after excerpts of the podcast episode circulated on two TikTok accounts, prompting public complaints that the content could stir communal tensions.

Officers seized several electronic items, including a laptop and a mobile phone, during a search at one of the producers' residences for forensic examination.

The second producer was accompanied by legal counsel when arriving at the North Klang district police headquarters to cooperate with investigating officers.

Magistrates reduced the police's initial request for a four-day remand to two days following objections raised by defence lawyers during submissions.

The case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Sections 298, 504, and 505(c) of the Penal Code, as well as provisions of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
