KOTA KINABALU: Two individuals have received the gift of sight through eye donations from a noble-hearted road accident victim, here.

State Health Director Datuk Dr Rose Nani Mudin said the organ donor was 60-year-old Laini Sukat who became the second person in Sabah this year to donate her organs after being pronounced dead at Ranau Hospital.

The deceased's family informed the hospital that she had wished to donate her organs after her passing and all immediate family members supported the noble wish.

"The donation of a pair of eyes was completed at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the eye transplant surgeries were also successfully carried out on two recipients at the same hospital," she said in a statement, Sunday.

"The State Health Department expresses its condolences and highest appreciation and gratitude for the kindness of the donor and her family members for giving the gift of life to patients in need.

"May the soul of the deceased rest in peace and may the family be given strength to face this difficult time."

The Department calls on the public to register as organ donor pledgers through the MySejahtera application and inform their immediate family members of their noble wishes.
