Two remanded over alleged murder of 10-year-old girl

Kota Kinabalu: Two men have been remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation into the alleged murder of a 10-year-old girl in Kampung Numbak, Sepanggar.

The remand order, effective today until July 24, was issued by Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali following an application by investigating officer ASP La Paula Abd Muis under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

La Paula said the suspects are a 39-year-old undocumented man and a 42-year-old local man, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code and that further details could not be disclosed as investigations are ongoing.

The two men were arrested after the body of Nurjilya Abdullah, who had been reported missing since July 13, was found on a vegetated slope near a house under construction in Kampung Numbak on Wednesday.

Earlier, acting City police chief Supt Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman said a post-mortem examination found Nurjilya is believed to have died from injuries to her face and the back of her head, suspected to have been inflicted with a hard, blunt object.
