Two sisters, aged 15 and 18, perish in Sitiawan house fire

IPOH, Oct 16 - Two sisters, aged 15 and 18, were killed after becoming trapped in a fire that destroyed two adjoining double-storey houses in Kampung Koh, near Sitiawan, today.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director Datuk Sayani Saidon said the department received an emergency call at 9.01 am.

Firefighters from the Sitiawan and Seri Manjung fire and rescue stations, along with personnel from the Pantai Remis Volunteer Fire Brigade, arrived at the scene at 9.10 am.

"Upon arrival, firefighters found two adjoining Class C houses, each measuring 40 feet by 70 feet, engulfed in flames. Both houses were almost 90 per cent destroyed, with the two sisters trapped inside," she said in a statement today.

She added that the fire also destroyed four vehicles and a motorcycle.

Sayani said firefighters brought the blaze under control at 10.30 am.

"The department's K9 Special Team was also contacted to assist in the investigation. The bodies of both victims have been handed over to the police and taken to Teluk Intan Hospital," she added.
