Emily’s three charges involved stealing a Coach handbag and a Card Case Coated Canvas Signature Mini ID Skinny each between 11.10am and 11.20am on Oct 8, 2024, and a Gotham Duffle 24 Horse & Carriage handbag at 10.20am on Oct 12, 2024.
Jellfer’s charge was for stealing a brown Coach Essential Small Zip Coated Canvas card case between 11.10am and 11.20am on Oct 8, 2024.
Each charge was framed under Section 380 of the Penal Code.
Their counsel, Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence, applied for the court to impose the minimum sentence of a bond of good behaviour or a fine of RM2,000, stressing that both women were first-time offenders, elderly, unemployed, and suffering from health problems.
He said Emily, a divorced mother of two, has a heart condition and high cholesterol, while Jellfer, a single mother of two and grandmother of a 10-year-old, suffers from hypertension and high cholesterol.
Lim added that the women had fully cooperated with the police, were remorseful, and had not benefited from the thefts, as the stolen items were recovered and would be returned to the store, which also had theft insurance.
The prosecution applied for the good behaviour bonds to include the required deposits.
