Two women killed, three seriously injured in crash

KOTA MARUDU: Two women were killed and three others, including a man, were seriously injured after their Toyota four-wheel-drive rammed onto a mound before turning turtle along Jalan Kampung Gana, near here, on Monday.

Doyut Nanu, 58, and Somineh Engkagang, 17, succumbed to their injuries following the 1.50pm incident.

The seriously injured, including the driver, were aged 85, 65 and 27. They were rushed to Kota Marudu Hospital.

It is learnt that all victims are related and were on their way back to Kampung Gana from Kota Marudu town.

Read more Kota Marudu District Police Chief Supt Zairolnizal Ishak said initial investigation revealed the driver had lost control of the vehicle before hitting the mound, overturned and landed on a cement drain by the roadside.

“The two deceased were pronounced dead at the scene, while three others suffered serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital,” he said in a statement.

He said no other victims or vehicles were involved in the incident, adding that the case will be investigated under Section 41(1) Road Transport Act 1987.
