Two women remanded over alleged child mistreatment at nurseries in Pahang as police investigate separate cases involving toddlers in Kuantan and Temerloh
KUANTAN: Two women have been remanded for six days to assist in investigations into the alleged mistreatment of children at childcare centres in Kuantan and Temerloh.
Acting Pahang police chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob said the two nursery staff, aged 31 and 26, were remanded for six days until Saturday (Sept 12) following applications by police at the Kuantan and Temerloh Magistrates’ Courts.
He said the 31-year-old woman was detained yesterday to assist in investigations into the alleged mistreatment of a two-year-old boy at a nursery in Bukit Setongkol here.
“Another woman was detained to facilitate investigations into allegations of mistreatment involving a two-year-old girl at a nursery in Temerloh,” he said in a statement today.
Kuantan district police chief ACP Ashari Abu Samah said yesterday that police received a report concerning a viral video showing a toddler being scolded, having his hair pulled and his head shaken by a woman working at the centre.
Meanwhile, Temerloh district police chief ACP Mohd Nasyim Bahron said police received a report from the child’s 29-year-old mother at about 6 pm yesterday over allegations that her two-year-old daughter had been mistreated by a nanny at a nursery near Temerloh.
The video showing the alleged mistreatment of the child by the nursery caretaker has also gone viral on social media, drawing widespread public attention.
