A two-year-old boy died after being run over by a door-to-door garbage collection vehicle in Bhuna town of Fatehabad district on Wednesday morning. The victim, Ansh, son of Pradeep and a resident of Ward No. 5, sustained critical injuries in the accident near Baba Ranadhir Temple and later succumbed to his injuries during treatment at a hospital.

According to eyewitnesses, the garbage collection vehicle had arrived in the narrow street around 9 am for routine waste collection. A water tanker parked at a nearby junction reportedly obstructed the passage, forcing the driver to reverse the vehicle carefully.

During the manoeuvre, the child, who was playing in the street, suddenly came behind the vehicle. The driver allegedly failed to notice him, and the rear wheel ran over the boy.

The accident triggered panic in the area. Family members and local residents rushed the injured child to a hospital, but doctors could not save him.

Police and the local ward councillor reached the spot after receiving information. The body was sent for a post-mortem examination.

Residents said the street is narrow and children frequently play there during the morning hours. They demanded that garbage collection vehicles should be accompanied by helpers while reversing to prevent such accidents. Some also sought changes in the timing of waste collection.

Bhuna SHO Om Prakash Bishnoi said the vehicle has been seized and an investigation is underway. He said action against the driver will be taken as per the law based on the complaint filed by the family.
