Two young boys found drowned in Johor lake after late-night search

TWO young boys, aged nine and ten, were found drowned early Wednesday morning at Tasik Menawan in Pelangi Indah, following a late-night search by emergency responders.

Their bodies were discovered approximately five metres from the lake's edge by the Water Rescue Team (PPDA), who had been deployed by the Johor Jaya Fire and Rescue Station.

Senior Fire Officer II Mohd Shafie Md Din, who led the 14-member operation team, said the search and rescue (SAR) began after an emergency call was received at 9.44pm on Tuesday. Crews arrived at the scene within ten minutes.

“Two pairs of slippers were found near the shore, believed to belong to the victims — Muhammad Rayyan Iskandar Mohamed Hafizee, aged nine, and Muhammad Khalish Rayqarl Hasimudi, aged ten,” said Mohd Shafie.

Firefighters conducted a surface search across a radius of 7.6 metres around the lake, while the PPDA employed an arch pattern search underwater.

“The victims were found beneath rocks at a depth of ten feet and were pronounced dead at the scene,” he added.

The bodies were handed over to the police for further action. The operation was called off at 3.05am. - October 22, 2025
