A 10-MONTH-OLD baby girl is in critical condition after the car carrying her family overturned following a tyre blowout along Jalan Kluang–Batu Pahat in the early hours of the morning.

The accident occurred at about 2.40am at Kilometre 19 of the road, directly in front of the campus of Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia.

Batu Pahat district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah said preliminary investigations found that the vehicle, driven by a 26-year-old local man, lost control after a tyre burst. His 41-year-old wife was in the passenger seat.

“The accident occurred when the tyre of the car they were travelling in burst, causing it to skid and overturn. The man sustained injuries to his left hand while his wife suffered head injuries and both are being treated in the hospital’s Yellow Zone,” he said in a statement.

The couple’s infant daughter sustained severe head injuries and is being treated in the Red Zone of Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail. Her condition is reported to be critical.

Police are investigating the case under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving.

Earlier, two videos of the crash circulated widely on social media. The footage captured the sound of a child crying and showed flames near the badly damaged vehicle before members of the public rushed to extinguish the fire. Several motorists were also seen stopping to assist the injured family as the wrecked car lay overturned at the roadside. - February 28, 2026
