THE United States military is conducting an urgent search for a missing pilot after Iran shot down an American F-15E Strike Eagle, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict now in its sixth week.

Iran has called on its citizens to locate the pilot, offering a reward for assistance.

AP reported on Saturday that the incident follows the downing of two U.S. aircraft on Friday, with one crew member rescued while another remains unaccounted for.

It represents the first confirmed loss of American aircraft on Iranian territory during the campaign and may signal a new turning point in the war, which began on February 28 with joint U.S. and Israeli operations.

The conflict has already caused thousands of deaths, disrupted global markets, disrupted key shipping routes, and driven fuel prices higher.

Iran has continued to retaliate against U.S. and Israeli airstrikes with missile and drone attacks across the region.

On Saturday, an apparent Iranian drone struck the Dubai headquarters of Oracle, a U.S. technology firm, while Israel reported missile launches toward its territory.

The downing of the planes came just days after U.S President Donald Trump claimed in a national address that the United States had “beaten and completely decimated Iran” and would “finish the job very fast.”

The Pentagon has confirmed receiving notification of the aircraft being shot down but has provided limited details. A U.S. military search-and-rescue operation remains ongoing.

Iranian state media has reported that an A-10 U.S. attack aircraft also crashed in the Persian Gulf, though the circumstances and crew status remain unclear.

The country’s media urged residents to report any downed enemy pilots to authorities.

The war has also affected strategic and civilian targets. The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran reported an airstrike near its Bushehr nuclear facility, resulting in one security guard’s death and structural damage.

The Revolutionary Guard has targeted tech firms it accuses of espionage, including Oracle and Amazon Web Services facilities in the UAE and Bahrain.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical flashpoint, with Iran maintaining a chokehold over the vital shipping lane, prompting concern among world leaders and scrutiny by the U.N. Security Council.

Civilian casualties have largely clustered around strategic and state-linked targets rather than indiscriminate urban bombardment, according to the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data project.

The situation remains fluid as the U.S. intensifies search-and-rescue efforts and Iran continues its military operations, underscoring the heightened volatility and regional impact of the war. - April 4, 2026
