UEC: still no report from task force after deadline, says Fadhlina

KUALA LUMPUR – The Education Ministry (MoE) has not received any reports from the Unified Examination Certificate Task Force (PPDUEC) even after passing its deadline, said Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

In a parliamentary reply, Fadhlina said, according to the reference terms of PPDUEC, the due date to submit its study report to MoE was three to six months from November 29, 2018.

She further stated the study period has been extended six times until the end of February 29, 2020.

“However, PPDUEC has yet to submit the study report,” she said.

Her response after Nazri Abu Hassan (Merbok-PN), had asked Fadhlina regarding the results obtained by PPDUEC in relation to recognising UEC, in addition to whether the government would recognise the certificate.

“The Education Ministry has not planned to recognise the UEC, which is currently implemented in Chinese private secondary schools.

“This stand is based on the National Education Policy and the provisions of the Education Act 1996 (Act 550),” Fadhlina added.

In 2019, it was reported that PPDUEC had promised to submit the final report on recognising UEC to the Education Ministry by the end of October, the same year. – The Vibes, March 16, 2023
