President Donald Trump is facing criticism after the Pentagon announced the release of “never-before-seen” files on UFOs and “unidentified anomalous phenomena.”
The Trump administration has claimed the files were released as part of a “historic transparency effort.” But some have criticized the move, including former GOP congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, who accused the administration of spreading “propaganda.”
“I really don’t care about the UFO files. I just don’t. I’m so sick of the ‘look at the shiny object’ propaganda while they wage foreign wars, let rapist and pedophiles run free, and ruin the value of our dollar,” Greene wrote on X.
When asked about her comments, White House spokesperson Davis Ingle told The Independent: “Marjorie ‘Quitter’ Greene has never met a conspiracy theory she didn’t embrace.”
“The former Congresswoman disgracefully quit on her constituents during the middle of her term. Now, she should also quit spreading Fake News,” he added.
The documents shared Friday include a transcript of the 1969 Apollo 11 mission technical crew debriefing, during which astronaut Buzz Aldrin described “unusual” observations he made during the expedition.
The files also included a transcript of the Apollo 17 lunar crew reporting unidentified phenomena during their 1972 mission. Pilot Ronald Evans described “a few very bright particles” drifting past the spaceship, while fellow crew member Harrison Schmitt told mission control, “It looks like the Fourth of July out of Ron’s window.”

MAGA influencer refused to help with release of Trump’s UFO files
08:30 , Andrea CavallierLast year, MAGA influencer Rogan O’Handley participated in an infamous White House photo op, where he was photographed alongside likeminded activists holding a binder labeled “The Epstein Files: Phase 1.”
Unfortunately, the much anticipated release by then-Attorney General Pam Bondi turned out to contain nothing new about the crimes of the politically-connected pedophile Jeffrey Epstein – leaving MAGA figures who had spent years demanding new information feeling cheated.
Now, he says he regrets the experience and plans to play no role in the administration’s next promised disclosure: the UFO files.
“Happy to report that I will *not* be helping release the UFO Files,” O’Handley, known as DC Draino, wrote on X to his 2.3 million followers on Wednesday.

Trump tells Americans to 'have fun and enjoy' new UFO files
07:45 , Andrea CavallierPresident Donald Trump called on Americans to “have fun and enjoy” the newly released UFO files.
“As for my promise to you, the Department of War has released the first tranche of the UFO/UAP files to the Public for their review and study,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
He added: “In an effort for Complete and Maximum Transparency, it was my Honor to direct my Administration to identify and provide Government files related to Alien and Extraterrestrial Life, Unidentified Aerial Phenomena, and Unidentified Flying Objects. Whereas previous Administrations have failed to be transparent on this subject, with these new Documents and Videos, the people can decide for themselves, ‘WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?’ Have Fun and Enjoy!”
Files are likely to fuel speculation rather than quell it, physicist says
07:00 , Andrea CavallierPhysicist and former director of the Pentagon’s All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office Sean Kirkpatrick says the files are likely to fuel speculation rather than quell it, according to Scientific American.
“There’s nothing unexpected in their release. And without any analysis or context, [it] will only serve to fuel more speculation, conspiracy and armchair pseudoscience, particularly from the playhouse politics theater company,” he said.
Independent researcher and UAP skeptic Mick West added that while the release includes new videos and pilot reports, there is “nothing really interesting” to be found so far. “More dots, more parallax.”

What we learned from the first batch of the UFO files
04:45 , Andrea CavallierThe Trump administration released its first batch of files on UFOs and “unidentified anomalous phenomena” Friday morning.
The Pentagon’s trove of documents includes descriptions of unidentified objects spotted during NASA’s lunar missions and out-of-this-world FBI tips about flying saucers and extraterrestrial life.

What we learned from the first batch of the UFO files
What did the Apollo 17 astronauts see on the moon?
04:00 , Andrea CavallierApollo 17 astronauts who traveled to the moon witnessed lights that lit up the atmosphere like the “Fourth of July,” according to a transcript released by the Department of Defense Friday.
“This document is an excerpt from the Apollo 17 Technical Air-to-Ground Voice Transcription, December 1972, highlighting three periods in which astronauts reported observing unidentified phenomenon: a nine-minute period on the first day, a three-hour period on the second day, and a six-minute period on the third day.”
Day 1 of the mission: “Command Module Pilot (CMP), Ronald Evans, reported observing ‘very bright particles or fragments’ drifting and ‘tumbling’ near the spacecraft as it maneuvered. Lunar Module Pilot (LMP), Harrison ‘Jack’ Schmitt, described the phenomenon as looking ‘like the Fourth of July’.”
Day 2 of the mission: Mission Commander Eugene A. Cernan reported that he had “difficulty sleeping” and saw streaks of intense light that he deemed not to be an optical illusion and compared the light’s “intensity” to that of a “train headlight” and “characterizing it as imposing.”
Day 3 of the mission: The report stated Schmitt “observed a flash on the lunar surface north of Grimaldi (crater).” Photos included in the file are of the lunar surface showing unidentified objects on the horizon.
Gemini VII astronaut spotted unidentified object
03:00 , Katie HawkinsonAstronaut Frank Borman reported seeing an “unidentified object” during the 1965 Gemini VII mission, according to a transcript released by the Defense Department Friday.
“We have very, very many a — it looks like hundreds of little particles going by to the left out about three or four miles,” Borman told mission control.
Borman was joined by James Lovell for the 14-day mission, which sought to evaluate “how astronauts would endure long-duration space flight,” according to NASA’s website.
Recap: UFO files released after months of anticipation
02:15 , Katie HawkinsonThe Defense Department released “never-before-seen” files related to UFOs on Friday — a move that has been anticipated for months.
President Donald Trump announced in February that he was directing the Pentagon to release its files on UFOs, citing "tremendous interest” from the public.
The order came just days after former President Barack Obama told podcaster Brian Tyler Cohen that aliens are “real,” but that he hadn’t seen them. Obama later clarified his comments, claiming he saw “no evidence during my presidency that extraterrestrials have made contact with us.”
Some Republican lawmakers have also been pushing for the files to be published. This includes Representative Anna Paulina Luna, who called Friday’s release a “massive first step in the right direction.”

“I’m grateful to the bipartisan group of members that have been pushing for this for the last several years. The American people have a right to know. New photos, videos and documents. We need #disclosure and we need it now,” he wrote on X Friday.
Tim Burchett, a major proponent of declassifying UFO files, thanked President Donald Trump for the disclosure, calling it a “great start.”
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna of Florida, a colleague and ally of Burchett's, echoed his sentiment, calling Friday’s release a “massive first step in the right direction.”
When will we get more UFO files?
00:00 , Katie HawkinsonThe Pentagon released the first batch of UFO files Friday.
Now, officials are planning to release additional documents on a “rolling basis,” according to a press release. Republican Representative Anna Paulina Luna also said a second release is expected in about 30 days.
“This release follows the direction of President Donald J. Trump to begin the process of identifying and declassifying government files related to [unidentified anomalous phenomena] in the interest of total transparency. No other President or administration in history has followed through on this level of UAP transparency,” the Pentagon said.
Witnesses describe seeing 'bright lights' and strange objects in 2023 FBI interiews
23:00 , Katie HawkinsonThe FBI interviewed two witnesses in September 2023 who described strange phenomena, according to reports released Friday as part of the Pentagon’s UFO files.
One of these witnesses said they saw a “bright light” at a U.S. test site, according to an FBI report.
“The light was stationary in the air, then started moving to the right and then disappeared ... The light was bright white and was visible for ten seconds before it disappeared,” the report says.
In a separate incident, an individual told the FBI they saw a “cigar shaped object with an extremely bright light.”
“The object was almost hovering, slowly moving from east to west. The light was an intense diamond white light with what appeared to be a ring around the light and was located on the eastern end of the object,” the FBI report says.

White House reacts to MTG's criticism
21:37 , Katie HawkinsonThe White House slammed former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene after she accused the Trump administration of releasing the UFO files to distract from the Iran war and gas prices.
“Marjorie ‘Quitter’ Greene has never met a conspiracy theory she didn’t embrace. The former Congresswoman disgracefully quit on her constituents during the middle of her term. Now, she should also quit spreading Fake News,” White House spokesperson Davis Ingle told The Independent.
Earlier Friday, Greene wrote on X: “The most transparent administration in history still hasn’t released all the Epstein files or arrested anyone, but rolled out some UFO files today so you would get so excited that you forgot you are paying over $4.50/gallon because they are fighting another foreign war they said they would no longer fight.”
In a separate post, Greene accused the administration of spreading “propaganda.”
“I really don’t care about the UFO files. I just don’t. Buzz Aldrin describes 'unusual' observations on Apollo 11 mission
15:21 , Katie HawkinsonApollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin, the second person to walk on the moon, described three strange sightings from the mission during a crew debriefing, according to documents released as part of the Defense Department’s UFO files.
“The first unusual thing that we saw I guess was one day out or something pretty close to the moon. It had a sizeable dimension to it, so we put the monocular on it,” Aldrin said.
Another observation included “little flashes” inside the cabin.
“The other observation that I made accumulated gradually. I don’t know whether I saw it the first night, but I’m sure I saw it the second night. I was trying to go to sleep with all the lights out. I observed what I thought were little flashes inside the cabin, spaced a couple of minutes apart,” he said.
He also saw a “fairly bright light.”
“I observed what appeared to be a fairly bright light source which we tentatively ascribed to a possible laser,” Aldrin explained.

Defense Department investigating three 'dots' spotted on Apollo 17 mission
14:38 , Katie HawkinsonThe Defense Department said it has opened an investigation into a photograph taken on the 1972 Apollo 17 lunar mission.
The image, which was already public, shows “three ‘dots’ in a triangular formation in the lower right quadrant of the lunar sky that is clearly visible upon magnification of the image,” according to the agency.
“While this photo has been previously released and discussed by keen observers, there is no consensus about the nature of the anomaly. New preliminary US government analysis suggests the image feature is potentially the result of a physical object in the scene,” the agency said.
The government has obtained the original film from the mission and plans to release the full analysis once the investigation is completed.
Apollo 17 crew spotted unidentified phenomena, transcripts reveal: 'It looks like the Fourth of July'
14:32 , Katie HawkinsonThe Defense Department’s file release included a transcript of the Apollo 17 lunar crew describing unidentified phenomena spotted near their spacecraft.
The Apollo 17 crew landed on the moon in December 1972.

“Roger. Understand,” mission control replied.
"There's a whole bunch of big ones on my window down there – just bright. It looks like the Fourth of July out of Ron's window," pilot Harrison Schmitt added.
“Yes. Now you can see some of them in shape. They're very jagged, angular fragments that are tumbling,” Evans said.
The next day, mission commander Eugene Cernan reported observing “some sets of the streaks.”
“And probably the one most imposing thing I remember is - and the last one I remember before falling asleep - was the fact that there was a very bright spot that flashed right between my eyes like a very bright headlight - like a train coming at you, only with a flash,” he said.
