Uganda has confirmed two more cases of Ebola, the Health Ministry said on Monday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the East African country to seven.

The ministry said the new cases concern two staff members at a private hospital in the capital Kampala. They are receiving treatment and all contact people are being traced and monitored.

The Health Ministry previously confirmed that a woman who had travelled from Congo - where an outbreak of the infectious disease began in mid-May - to Kampala had tested positive for the virus after being treated in a private hospital in the capital for abdominal pain.

The first Ebola cases were not confirmed in the laboratory until May 15. On May 17, the WHO declared a public health emergency of international concern. By that point, there were already more than 240 known suspected infections. There are now more than 900 suspected cases and more than 100 confirmed cases.

Ebola is a contagious and life-threatening infectious disease. The current outbreak is particularly difficult to contain because there is neither a vaccine nor a specific treatment for the rare Bundibugyo strain
