UK actor charged in huge Australian drug bust

  • Emaa Hussen, a British actor known for the EastEnders spin-off E20, has been charged with allegedly attempting to import £157m worth of methamphetamine into Australia.
  • Police allege Hussen, 34, along with an Adelaide-based couple, tried to import 320kg of meth hidden in bags of charcoal, transported in shipping containers from Ghana.
  • The drugs, with an estimated street value of A$296m (£157m), were detected by Australian Border Force officers in Sydney's Port Botany.
  • Hussen appeared in a Sydney court on Thursday, 18 June, where she was refused bail, and is scheduled to return to court in August.
  • The Australian Federal Police alleged that Hussen supervised the unpacking of a container at a storage facility, and further bags believed to have contained meth were found at her home.
