UK and France intercept ship linked to Russian oil trade

  • Britain and France have jointly intercepted a suspected sanctioned Russian oil tanker, named the Tagor, in the Atlantic.
  • French President Emmanuel Macron shared a video of the French navy boarding the vessel in international waters.
  • He said that circumventing international sanctions and violating maritime law to fund Russia's war in Ukraine is unacceptable.
  • He also said that the ships “fail to adhere to the most basic rules of maritime navigation” and “pose a threat to the environment and to everyone's safety”.
  • In a separate incident, the French Navy diverted an oil tanker more than 400 miles west of the tip of Brittany following suspicions that it was flying under a false flag.
