UK economy returned to growth in May driven by services sector

  • The UK economy returned to growth in May, with Gross Domestic Product (GDP) rising by 0.1%, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
  • However, expansion was muted amid price pressures stemming from the Iran war.
  • This meagre growth followed a 0.1% contraction in April, which marked the first fall in eight months.
  • The services sector drove the increase with a 0.3% expansion, while the production and construction sectors both saw declines.
  • Overall, GDP increased by 0.7% in the three months to May.
