UK heatwave forces schools to close early as 40C temperatures forecast

  • Several schools across the UK are implementing early closures this week due to high temperatures.
  • Kingdown School in Warminster will send pupils home from 12:25 and cancel after-school care clubs, while Oaks Park High School in Sutton will close at 12:20pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
  • Belmont Junior School in north London has requested parents collect children at 1:30pm, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with arrangements being in place for those unable to do so.
  • All Saints Benhilton Primary School in Sutton is also allowing parents to collect their children early at 1:15pm this week.
  • Many schools, including Kingdown and Falkland Primary School in Newbury, are permitting students to wear their PE kit to school.
