MANILA, Philippines — Judge Joanna Korner has been designated presiding judge of Trial Chamber III in the case against former president Rodrigo Duterte at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

In a decision issued on Wednesday, the Chamber announced that Korner, a judge from the United Kingdom, will lead the three-judge panel hearing the case.

The chamber, which also includes Judge Keebong Paek of South Korea and Judge Nicolas Guillou of France, elected Korner pursuant to Regulation 13(2) of the court’s regulations. Her designation was confirmed following the official referral of the Duterte case to Trial Chamber III by the ICC Presidency on April 24.

The decision formalizes the court’s judicial leadership for the proceedings against the former Philippine leader.
