UK passport application fees could rise to over £100

  • The government will introduce new fees for passport applications from 8 April 2026, pending parliamentary approval.
  • Standard online applications from within the UK will increase from £94.50 to £102 for adults and £61.50 to £66.50 for children, while postal applications will rise to £115.50 for adults and £80 for children.
  • For overseas applicants, standard online fees will increase to £116.50 for adults and £75.50 for children, with paper applications rising to £130 for adults and £89 for children.
  • The fee adjustments aim to help the Home Office cover the costs of processing applications, providing consular support, and processing British citizens at UK borders, thereby reducing reliance on general taxation.
  • The government says it does not make a profit from passport applications and advises customers to apply in good time before travelling.
