- The UK has issued 12 new sanctions, including travel bans and asset freezes, targeting nine individuals and three entities accused of planning attacks and engaging in hostile activity in Britain on behalf of Iran.
- Among those sanctioned are the Zindashti Network, which is linked to Iran's Ministry of Intelligence and accused of transnational repression, and five members of the Zarringhalam family, who allegedly helped finance efforts to destabilise the UK and were previously sanctioned by the US for 'shadow banking' activities.
- The sanctioned entities include Berelian Exchange and GCM Exchange, companies connected to the Zarringhalam family's network, alongside the Zindashti Network.
- Other individuals accused of threatening or conducting attacks in the UK or elsewhere include Turkish national Ekrem Oztunc, Azerbaijani national Namiq Salifov, and Iranian national Nihat Abdul Kadir Asan.
- These sanctions coincide with preparations for a meeting co-hosted by Britain and France, involving 40 defence ministers, to discuss plans for protecting shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has effectively closed, causing significant global economic disruption.
