UK’s cheapest supermarket for branded groceries holds top spot again

  • Asda has been named the UK's cheapest supermarket for branded groceries for the third consecutive month, with its standard prices outperforming loyalty card deals at Tesco and Sainsbury's.
  • A Which? analysis of 240 branded items found Asda's basket cost £795.21, making Sainsbury's 17 per cent and Tesco 15 per cent more expensive for shoppers without a loyalty card.
  • For the third month running, the UK's two biggest supermarkets, Tesco and Sainsbury's, were pricier than Waitrose for branded items for non-loyalty card holders.
  • Asda's prices, available to all shoppers, were even cheaper than the member-only prices at Tesco with a Clubcard (by 3 per cent) and Sainsbury's with a Nectar card (by 6 per cent).
  • Which? highlighted significant price differences, such as Colgate Plax Cool Mint Mouthwash costing £2 at Asda compared to £4.50 at Tesco and Sainsbury's without a loyalty card, a 125 per cent difference.
