UK set for another heatwave after record-breaking summer

  • The Met Office has warned that another late-season heatwave could hit southern parts of the UK between late August and early September.
  • The forecast follows a period of unprecedented heat and dry weather, with temperatures recently peaking at a provisional 38.1C.
  • Almost three quarters of England and the whole of Wales have been plunged into drought after experiencing the driest July on record.
  • Fire crews are continuing to tackle numerous blazes across the UK, including 14 ongoing wildfires in South Wales.
  • A temporary ban on disposable barbecues has been introduced after Prime Minister Andy Burnham warned they likely contributed to some of the fires.
