UK to send drones and warship to support ‘multinational mission’ securing Strait of Hormuz

  • The United Kingdom is deploying drones, Typhoon fighter jets, and the warship HMS Dragon to a multinational defensive mission in the Strait of Hormuz, supported by £115m in new funding.
  • Defence minister John Healey said on Tuesday: “With our allies, this multinational mission will be defensive, independent and credible.”
  • This deployment follows threats from Iran to enrich uranium to weapons-grade purity if Donald Trump reopens the conflict.
  • Ebrahim Rezaei, an Iranian parliamentary spokesperson, warned that Tehran could enrich uranium up to 90 per cent if the country is attacked again.
  • Donald Trump is reportedly considering reopening the conflict, having dismissed the latest proposal to end the war, with diplomatic efforts at an impasse.
