A Russian oil facility was set on fire in the Black Sea city of Novorossiysk amid fresh Ukrainian drone attacks overnight, authorities reported on Saturday.
Parts of a downed drone crashed on the grounds of a fuel terminal, sparking fires in several technical and administrative buildings, according to the Krasnodar regional operational headquarters.
Two people have been injured, it said in a statement.
According to witness reports on social media, the Grushovaya oil terminal, one of the largest oil storage facilities in the Caucasus, was hit, including underground and above-ground reservoirs, as well as a transhipment facility.
The oil industry in Novorossiysk is vital to Russia’s war economy and has repeatedly been targeted by Ukrainian drones as Kiev seeks to defend itself amid the full-scale invasion launched more than four years ago.
Ukraine has recently ramped up its attacks on the Russian hinterland, with the Russian Defence Ministry reporting 348 drones that were shot down overnight.
It was not possible to independently verify the claims.
Authorities reported damage from the drone attacks in several regions, including in Anapa on the Black Sea.
Authorities in Perm, some 1,000 kilometres to the east from Moscow, also reported an attack on an industrial facility, which led to a fire at a chemical plant.
In Ukraine, the air force said 102 of 124 Russian drones fired at the country overnight were intercepted.
A total of 12 impacts were registered in nine locations, alongside falling drone debris in five locations, it said.
