- Former prime minister Gordon Brown has warned that Ukraine faces its worst winter since the conflict with Russia began in February 2022.
- Speaking at the Edinburgh International Book Festival, Brown urged the UK and its allies to press US President Donald Trump to bolster support for Kyiv at the war faces a “critical moment”.
- He called on Trump to allow Ukraine to produce Patriot interceptor missiles to protect its population and power infrastructure from Russian bombardment.
- Brown cautioned that whilst allies must help Ukraine, Europe and the UK must remain careful to avoid entering a direct war with Russia.
- He added that UK plans allowing Ukraine to manufacture British long-range Scalp missiles may not make a huge difference in the very short term.
