Ukraine’s military said on Thursday it had fired on a Russian vessel in the Caspian Sea, striking a warship capable of launching Kalibr cruise missiles.

A Karakurt-class corvette was hit, Ukraine’s General Staff said in a statement on Facebook.

The military released a thermal image it said showed the vessel after the strike, likely captured by the attacking drone. The extent of the damage is unclear.

According to Kiev, the corvette was stationed in the city of Kaspiysk in the Russian republic of Dagestan in the North Caucasus.

Ukraine has recently reported multiple strikes on Russian naval assets, including ships from both the Black Sea and Baltic fleets.

Since launching its full-scale invasion of Ukraine more than four years ago, Russia has used its navy, including vessels based in the Caspian Sea, to carry out missile attacks on Ukrainian cities, often deploying Kalibr cruise missiles that have caused widespread damage.
