Ukraine’s military hit a key Russian oil terminal near Crimea, damaging storage and causing fires, as Moscow claims to have downed 88 drones.
MOSCOW: Ukraine’s army said it struck a key oil terminal in southern Russia near Moscow-annexed Crimea in its latest cross-border attack.
The General Staff stated that “an oil terminal in southern Russia and the Pantsir-S1 air defence system in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea has been hit.”
The target was the Tamanneftegaz oil terminal near the village of Volna in the Krasnodar region.
Volna is the location of the Black Sea port of Taman, which is used for Russian oil, coal and grain shipments.
Kyiv said the strike was part of “measures to reduce the offensive and economic potential of the Russian aggressor.”
Krasnodar governor Veniamin Kondratyev confirmed an attack on the region, stating an oil storage facility was damaged in Volna.
“The most difficult situation is in the village of Volna. There, a petroleum tank, a warehouse and terminals were damaged,” Kondratyev said.
He added that two people were wounded and more than 100 firefighters were deployed to extinguish several fires.
Russia’s defence ministry claimed it had downed 88 Ukrainian drones over southern and border regions early on Sunday.
A house in Russia’s Black Sea resort of Sochi was also damaged in the attacks, according to the regional governor.
Kyiv has repeatedly targeted Russian oil infrastructure throughout Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.
