A woman was killed when a drone hit a bus carrying a pupils' team in the western Russian region of Bryansk, according to official information on Wednesday.
Seven people, including five children, were taken to hospital, the Russian health ministry said. A total of 44 people are said to have been on the coach, including 28 children from a football team from Gomel in Belarus. The bus was reportedly travelling to the seaside resort of Gelendzhik on Russia's Black Sea coast.
The Bryansk region lies on the border with Ukraine. The Ukrainian military heavily targets vehicles in the region with drones to obstruct supplies to Russia's invading troops. However, Ukrainian drones have also repeatedly caused civilian casualties.
The Belarus Foreign Ministry said it wanted to examine the incident closely. Russia's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, meanwhile, described the attack on the bus as a terrorist attack and accused the Ukrainian leadership of "hunting peaceful citizens and especially children."
The war, which Russia started, has been going on for more than four years. Russian attacks have killed or injured more than 3,400 children in Ukraine, according to UNICEF.
