Universiti Malaya (UM) has stepped in to clarify how many students it takes in for its Bachelor of Accounting programme each year after questions were raised by MCA president Wee Ka Siong.
UM vice-chancellor Noor Azuan Abu Osman explained that the university allocates up to 160 spots for every intake.
Of these, 85 are given to students who apply through the centralised university admissions system, also known as UPU.
Another 28 places go to students from UM’s own feeder programme, while the remaining 30 to 50 seats are offered to those who apply directly through UM’s Open Channel “Satu” system.
The clarification was made to address concerns about the limited number of places for one of the country’s most sought-after accounting programmes.
