KUALA LUMPUR – Umno is confident that the 15th general election (GE15) will be held between next month and December, party secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said.
Berita Harian reported him as saying he was confident that Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob will dissolve Parliament soon to pave the way for the election.
“Umno is confident that GE15 will be held within the next three months. We just need to avoid the flood season.
“If it floods in December, don’t hold the polls in December. Hold it in November.
“If the polls are held in November, then dissolve Parliament in October,” Ahmad was quoted as saying today at a sports carnival in conjunction with Malaysia Day at Ayer Baloi in Pontian, his constituency.
The Pontian MP said Ismail Sabri’s remarks last night, that GE15 would be held “very soon” when launching the Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth machinery, was helpful for Umno.
“His remarks will help Umno be prepared,” Ahmad said.
Ismail Sabri also recently said that the Umno “top five”, in reference to its core leadership, would meet soon to discuss a date for GE15.
The prime minister, who is also an Umno vice-president, is part of the top five, which includes the party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, and two other vice-presidents, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.
Ismail Sabri, however, will be in New York this week in his capacity as prime minister to address the United Nations General Assembly on September 23. – The Vibes, September 18, 2022
