The MACC now considers Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob a suspect in an ongoing corruption and money laundering case and has ordered him to declare his assets under Section 36 of the MACC Act.
MACC Chief Tan Sri Azam Baki said this decision came after they found around RM170 million in cash as well as gold bars at a ‘safehouse’ during a raid.
UMNO isn’t linked to the case
Later, UMNO secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki posted a statement on Facebook to clarify that the party isn’t connected to the case and warned against trying to link them to the investigation.
The party reiterated that they will not take any attempts to link them to the MACC investigation lightly.
“UMNO takes seriously any attempts to link the party to the MACC investigation involving the discovery of a large amount of cash and gold bars at the residence of certain individuals,” the statement read.
“We will not hesitate to take legal action”
UMNO also emphasised that the MACC should be allowed to carry out its investigation transparently, independently, and fairly, without any interference.
The party also warned that they wouldn’t hesitate to take legal action against anyone who deliberately links, accuses, or creates the perception that the party is involved in the ongoing case.
