UMNO man says he’s prepared to apologise over ‘joke’

AN UMNO delegate who allegedly made sexually charged jokes about Catholic priests and nuns while speaking at the recent 2026 UMNO General Assembly (PAU) said he was prepared to apologise.

Sepang Umno chief Noorazli Said said he was aware of the reactions and views that arose regarding a story he shared when speaking at the 2026 Umno General Assembly.

“I used the story solely as an analogy to draw a lesson about the importance of focus, perseverance, and wisdom in achieving a goal. It was not intended to insult, belittle, or mock any individual, belief, or religion.

“However, I understand that when a story touches on a religious figure or reference, it can be interpreted in different ways and may cause misunderstandings, especially in Malaysia's multi-religious and multi-faith society.

“If my statement has caused any misunderstanding or offended any party, especially Christians, I am prepared to apologise,” he said on social media.

He said he takes this matter as a lesson to be more careful in choosing analogies and conveying any views in the future.

“I respect every religion and belief and always uphold harmony, mutual respect, and understanding as the foundation for the life of a multicultural society in this country.

“May this explanation help alleviate the misunderstanding that arose, and may we continue to maintain harmony and mutual respect among one another,” he added. – September 14, 2026
