Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has confirmed that he has been officially entrusted with overseeing the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) and Felda Global Ventures (FGV).
Ahmad Zahid, who is also UMNO President and Minister of Rural and Regional Development, said he received a formal letter from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim informing him of the new responsibility on Monday.
“I received a letter from the Prime Minister yesterday stating my new responsibility as the minister overseeing Felda and FGV officially,” he said while delivering his winding-up speech at the UMNO General Assembly 2025 here on Saturday.
He added that he would carry out the responsibility with the assistance of a deputy minister, particularly in managing matters related to settlers and Felda, which he described as a heavy responsibility.
Speaking to reporters later, Ahmad Zahid clarified that Felda remains under the Prime Minister’s Department (PMD).
“The National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) is also under the Prime Minister’s Department, as is the TVET Council that I chair. That is the current arrangement,” he said.
He explained that there is no longer a “dotted line” arrangement, noting that his previous role in overseeing Felda was informal and supportive in nature, but has now been finalised and formally established.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid stressed that UMNO has never exerted pressure on the Prime Minister or made excessive demands.
“I want to emphasise that UMNO’s support for the current government remains firm. We have never pressured the Prime Minister or demanded submission,” he said.
He added that within the Unity Government, it is neither possible to ask for everything nor provide everything, given that there are 17 political parties in the coalition.
“As such, power-sharing and the distribution of positions, although not equal, take into account the requests of all parties within the Unity Government,” he said.
