Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz 

Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz is a dynamic UMNO politician who had a loud bark but unlike what they say about barking dogs, this guy can also bite and chew his opponents to bits as well. To respect him he always stood by his words which were A Malaysian first and a Malay next. (Malaysian Digest)

One of his drastic and infamous quotes was “MCA is an 'abused wife’ who will not divorce her husband despite being raped and ill-treated”; “MIC is a party of no-hopers with little grassroots support”. Some see his fair share of controversial statements as reckless while others view them as realistic and honest; the rest just think they’re utter rubbish. (Malaysian Digest)

Nazri was one of the first who had withdrawn his support for the Perikatan Nasional Government led by Muhyiddin Yassin after the Sheraton move and this paved the way for UMNO to be led by Ismail Sabri. (FMT)

Unlike the others in Malaysian politics, this man knew when to stop and he did not stand in the GE15 instead he gracefully bowed out giving way to the younger generation. Nazri has represented the Nation in several ministries over the last 3 decades and said that he will remain a member of UMNO because it was in his blood. He has since then gone back to legal practice but even as an ordinary UMNO member, he still commanded respect from the grassroots. (FMT)

Nazri was well known for his outbursts as a minister and backbencher regarding issues not caring about sensitivity. This was the Minister who roared uttering “bloody racist’’ 28 times at Kulasegaran regarding the derecognition of Crimea State Medical University and again at Dr M for instilling racist sentiments within the civil service and public universities. A ferocious critic of Dr Mahathir, Nazri was dubbed a guard dog for Abdullah Ahmad Badawi defending him from attacks metaphorically biting the former in the butt. (Malaysian Digest)

Still Dr Mahathir’s Nemesis

In a recent news report, Dr Mahathir claimed that he was worried about Anwar’s ability to stabilise the country’s economy as he seemed to be more concerned about mustering support in Parliament. Washing dirty linen in public, Dr M claimed that Anwar back in the 90’s as a finance minister failed to sort out the country’s economy and was influenced by the World Bank and the IMF which could have ruined Malaysia. According to Dr M, Anwar was acting PM when he had taken a two month vacation and because of Anwar’s incompetence, the country went into an economic recession with the value of the ringgit falling. This time round Dr M was lambasted by Nazri and Charles Santiago who countered his accusations about Anwar as being far from the truth. Nazri said that Anwar did not have carte blanche over making decisions without the approval of Dr M whereas Charles Santiago commented that Dr M was always running the 10th PM down and he should be ignored.

UMNO leadership

The GE15 had established the discord that has arisen from the disunity within UMNO which Malaysians have clearly expressed their disapproval by casting their votes. Nazri asserted his opinion over the recent comments by Jamal Yunos and Khairul Azwan advising that the two top positions remain uncontested. The ignominious suggestions by the duo was immediately rebuked and Nazri called on UMNO to practise democracy and let the voices and choices of all of the whole party be heard through polls. Reiterating that both Zaid Hamidi and Mohamad Hasan should not be insulted by such a lame suggestion of a non democratic process which will only undermine their credibility. Nazri also confirmed that he had not lost his tenacity of being the firebrand he was by saying that those who had the audacity to suggest this were not credible to say what was best for Umno because they had lost in the general election. This straight talking man who is now out of politics seems to wield an equal amount of clout or even more in refereeing matters of the country without even being present in the parliament. The future of the country would be more secure if more stalwarts such as Nazri would enter the arena and steer and defend the Nation through their wisdom.
