Kuala Lumpur: Umno has sacked three divisional leaders who campaigned for the party’s rivals in the general election (GE15).
Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi said the trio included a division chief and the Wanita Umno chiefs of two divisions.
He said the sacked leaders had also badmouthed the party.
Puad said Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was firm on party discipline.
“He will not compromise with those who badmouth the party and leak details of Supreme Council meetings.”
Previously, Umno sacked four members who contested against the party – former MPs Shahidan Kassim (Arau), Ismail Abd Muttalib (Maran), and Zahidi Zainul Abidin (Padang Besar) as well as Kuala Perlis assemblyman Azhar Ahmad.
On last night’s Supreme Council meeting, the first since the formation of the unity government, Puad said party leaders discussed the allegations that the Perikatan Nasional-led government had spent nearly RM600 billion without following procedures.
“We will leave it to the prime minister but Umno believes the matter must be probed.”
Meanwhile, Umno vice-president Khaled Nordin said fellow vice-presidents Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Mahdzir Khalid did not attend last night’s meeting.
Ismail, the former prime minister, was at another event.
