Kuala Lumpur: Former Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin has been sacked from Umno, while Hishammuddin Hussein has been suspended for six years.

Former Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan, Maulizan Bujang and Salim Sharif have also been suspended for six years, Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan announced tonight after a Supreme Council meeting.

Ahmad also confirmed that former Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar had been given the boot.

Khairy and Noh were sacked for breaching party discipline during the 15th general election, Ahmad said in a statement.

Noh had earlier this evening said he had asked to be sacked following a six-year suspension and claimed that party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had agreed to it.

Other Umno members who were sacked include five from the Pasir Gudang division, nine from Putrajaya, two from Tanjung Karang, and 26 from Pahang.

Among the reasons for their sacking are standing as independent candidates in GE15 or under a different banner as well as helping rival political parties.

Meanwhile, Umno vice-president Khaled Nordin was appointed the Johor Umno chief replacing Hasni Mohammad, the former Johor menteri besar.
