Reportedly, it was a unanimous decision by the Umno supreme council to support and join a unity government.
As long at not led by PN but ok to collaborate and work together???
What has changed between Nov 2022 to July 2026, a period of almost 4 years that resulted in UMNO turning soft and agreeing to work with PN?
In fact, the collaboration continued in the next elections in Negeri Sembilan and both sides are now talking about extending the collaboration to the next impending elections in Melaka and possibly the next, the 16th GE.
Just before the 15th GE in Nov 2022, in September 2019, UMNO and PAS signed the Muafakat Nasional (MN) political charter in an effort to unite Malay-Muslim political parties. UMNO did not officially said it was leaving MN.
UMNO just formally dissolved its cooperation and rejected any possibility of reviving the alliance with PAS.
UMNO also states that it has no intention of bringing back MN in any form, citing that PAS chose to prioritize PN and Bersatu instead of the MN charter.
Both parties were then in the opposition.
Later, when asked by reporters on proposals of reviving political cooperation with PAS under the former Muafakat Nasional (MN) framework, the President of UMNO, used the phrase "bitten by the same snake twice" to reject the idea of a revival of MN.
How quick the love sour.
Has the `snake’ lost its fangs or UMNO deemed that the snake is no longer poisonous and thus cannot bite anymore for UMNO to agree to collaborate with PAS in the Johor and Negeri Sembilan elections and possibly future elections?
Or PAS suddenly choose to evolve and not to use its venom?
Snakes do not pretend to be non-venomous to lure victims.
Instead, they trick their preys.
