UMNO urges implementation of Najib’s house arrest following confirmation of Royal Addendum

UMNO has called for the implementation of a royal directive allowing former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest, following official confirmation of the so-called Royal Addendum by the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC).

UMNO Secretary-General Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the confirmation by the AGC affirms the existence of the royal order and supports the request for Najib’s conditional detention.

"UMNO records its gratitude to Allah SWT following the confirmation of the existence of the Royal Addendum by the Attorney-General’s Chambers," he said in a statement on Friday.

"UMNO humbly seeks mercy and compassion from His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for the house arrest order to be implemented, in line with His Majesty's absolute powers under Article 42(1) of the Federal Constitution.

"May, with the grace of His Majesty, Najib be granted the leniency that has been delayed for over a year. *Daulat Tuanku*," he added.

On Wednesday, the AGC informed the Federal Court that it did not dispute the existence of the Royal Addendum which purportedly permits Najib to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest.

However, Senior Federal Counsel Shamsul Bolhassan clarified that the AGC’s position concerned the procedural aspects of presenting the royal directive as new evidence in an ongoing judicial review at the High Court. - July 11, 2025
