Melaka UMNO Liaison Board Chairman, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, disclosed that Datuk Muhammad Jailani Khamis, the Rembia State Legislative Assembly Member, has yet to submit any official documentation confirming his membership with PAS, despite claims that he joined the party in June of last year.

Ab Rauf highlighted that UMNO Melaka had proactively sent a request to PAS to verify Muhammad Jailani's membership status, but no response has been received to date.

"The council secretary, through the Speaker of the State Assembly (DUN), has formally instructed the Rembia assemblyman to provide the official PAS membership letter and certificate to the Speaker's office, a directive that was set to expire on July 28," Ab Rauf stated.

“To this day, we have not received any official documentation from the Rembia assemblyman. In the absence of such documents beyond what was mentioned during PAS’s press conference, we require concrete proof that demonstrates his long-standing membership in PAS."

"Only with that verification can we take the necessary steps to assess the authenticity of his membership claim and make decisions accordingly. Without that confirmation, we are left in a position where we must wait for further developments," he told reporters at the World Trade Center (WTCKL) earlier today.

Ab Rauf further noted that due to the lack of cooperation from Muhammad Jailani, UMNO Melaka will wait for the upcoming state assembly session scheduled for November to address the matter.

“We are currently in a holding pattern until November. During the state assembly meeting, the Speaker will determine his status within the House, and at that time, we will seek clarity.”

"Taking any action against him, similar to what has occurred in other parties, hinges on his response. We will only proceed with any necessary actions once we have his reply," he added.

Previously, UMNO's Supreme Working Council (MKT) had decided to pursue legal action against Muhammad Jailani, seeking damages and compensation. This decision followed the announcement by PAS Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan that Muhammad Jailani had joined PAS in June of the previous year.

In a related development, Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman and UMNO President, Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, confirmed that the party had issued a letter of demand to Muhammad Jailani, seeking a RM100 million fine due to his defection to PAS.

The ongoing uncertainty surrounding Muhammad Jailani's status within PAS has sparked significant debate within the political landscape of Melaka. The situation has created a cloud of ambiguity, particularly concerning his allegiance and the implications it might have on the state assembly's dynamics. The lack of an official letter from Muhammad Jailani has left UMNO Melaka in a difficult position, as the party cannot move forward with any concrete action until his membership status is clarified.

As the November state assembly meeting approaches, the spotlight will likely remain on this issue, with both UMNO and PAS facing increasing pressure to resolve the matter. The outcome could have broader implications for the political balance in Melaka, particularly if UMNO decides to take legal action or other measures against Muhammad Jailani.

Moreover, the situation underscores the challenges faced by political parties in managing defections and ensuring that their members adhere to party protocols. In this case, the delay in confirming Muhammad Jailani's membership status has prolonged the uncertainty, creating frustration among UMNO's leadership and supporters.

Moving forward, it will be crucial for both UMNO and PAS to address this issue decisively, ensuring that the political landscape in Melaka remains stable and that the rule of law is upheld. The response from Muhammad Jailani, when it eventually comes, will play a pivotal role in determining the next steps for all parties involved.

In conclusion, the ongoing wait for Muhammad Jailani's official documentation has put UMNO Melaka in a holding pattern, with the party unable to take further action until the situation is resolved. The coming months will be critical in determining the political future of both Muhammad Jailani and the broader political dynamics within the Melaka state assembly.
