Umno opens doors for expelled and suspended members to rejoin, citing Ramadan’s spirit of forgiveness and unity to strengthen the party.
KUALA LUMPUR: Umno is inviting former members who were expelled or suspended to rejoin the party.
Party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the move aligns with the spirit of Ramadan, a period associated with mercy and forgiveness.
He stated that past differences and mistakes would be fully set aside to begin a new chapter in strengthening Umno’s political family.
The Deputy Prime Minister added that Umno views Ramadan as an opportune time to reconnect members with the party’s cause.
This initiative takes inspiration from the holy month’s emphasis on reflection, reconciliation and stronger bonds of brotherhood.
Ahmad Zahid said the party’s Rumah Bangsa Committee will immediately coordinate the process.
The committee, chaired by vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, will act in accordance with procedures outlined in the party’s constitution.
“May Allah ease this effort and may it become a point of unity that strengthens the party,” he said in a statement.
He added that this unity would help continue Umno’s struggle for religion, race and the nation.
