UMNO Will Launch Donation Drive To Raise Funds For Najib's RM50mil Fine
Today, the whole of Malaysia was full of shock and elation after former prime minister Najib Razak was granted a conditional pardon by the Yang di-Pertua Agong (YDPA) for his conviction in the SRC International case.

Among those who welcomed the news with great joy were UMNO and its president Zahid Hamidi, who released a statement concerning the pardon.

Expressed gratitude

In the statement, Zahid said he and the whole of UMNO were deeply grateful for the King’s decision to grant Najib a conditional pardon, saying that it was a “relief” for Najib, his family, and party loyalists who never gave up on praying for his release.

“UMNO’s advocacy for Najib had always been pursued with full propriety and humility, through the proper designated channels.

The party’s steadfast respect for the Malay Rulers, the Federal Constitution, and the rule of law will also continue to remain as the party’s core principles.

“I also call upon all UMNO members to receive the royal decision with humility, decorum, and strict adherence to legal norms,” he wrote.

Donation drive for Najib

Zahid also added that UMNO will launch a donation drive to raise funds and pay off the RM50 million fine imposed on Najib as part of his conditional pardon.

He also urged every UMNO party leader, members and supporter, along with those wishing to lend their support, to contribute voluntarily through an initiative that will be carried out “transparently, in an orderly manner, and in full compliance with all applicable rules and laws.”

However, he didn’t disclose how the money will be collected or administered.

Najib was allowed to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028.

He’s also required to pay the RM50 million fine, where he risks going back to Kajang Prison if he fails to do so.
