Police will not record Umno Youth chief Dr. Muhamad Akmal Saleh’s statement at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters, confirmed Dang Wangi police chief Noor Dellhan Yahaya today. The investigation into Akmal is being handled by Bukit Aman’s classified crime investigation unit, and therefore, his statement will not be recorded at Dang Wangi tomorrow.

Earlier, Akmal claimed on Facebook that he was scheduled for statement recording at Dang Wangi tomorrow. He also revealed being detained by Sabah police at Kota Kinabalu International Airport to assist in investigations related to convenience chain store KK Mart’s sale of “Allah”-printed socks.

In a video during detention, Akmal was seen saying “no fear, no surrender” while smiling at the camera from inside a police vehicle. After over two hours of detention at the Kota Kinabalu police headquarters, he was summoned for a second round of questioning.

Expressing confusion over the investigation by Sabah police, Akmal stated that he had not made any statements in the state about the “Allah”-printed socks issue.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain confirmed that police had detained Akmal in Kota Kinabalu because reports were lodged against him. As police aim to complete their sedition probe within seven days, they chose to detain him today.

Responding to Akmal's assertions about being detained in Sabah despite being summoned for questioning at Bukit Aman tomorrow, Razarudin stated that authorities were investigating Akmal under the Sedition Act 1948 and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Previously, Akmal had criticized the sale of the “Allah”-printed socks and condemned KK Mart, despite the company founder having publicly apologized for the item. This controversy resulted in several KK Mart outlets being attacked, with three stores each in Pahang, Perak, and Sarawak hit with molotov cocktails in over a week.

The situation surrounding Dr. Muhamad Akmal Saleh has intensified, with the police's decision not to record his statement at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters adding a layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation. Akmal's claim of being scheduled for statement recording tomorrow raises questions about the coordination between different police units and the handling of his case.

His detention by Sabah police at Kota Kinabalu International Airport has also sparked confusion and controversy. The video of Akmal saying "no fear, no surrender" while being detained suggests a defiant stance, but his subsequent statement about confusion over the investigation implies a lack of clarity regarding the accusations against him.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain's confirmation that Akmal is being investigated under the Sedition Act 1948 and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 indicates the seriousness of the allegations against him. The decision to detain him in Sabah, despite his scheduled questioning at Bukit Aman, underscores the urgency with which the police are treating the case.

Akmal's previous criticism of the sale of "Allah"-printed socks and his condemnation of KK Mart have contributed to the escalating tensions. The attacks on several KK Mart outlets following the controversy highlight the volatile nature of the situation and the potential consequences of inflammatory remarks.

Overall, the developments in Akmal's case raise concerns about freedom of speech, the handling of criminal investigations, and the role of social media in influencing public opinion. As the investigation unfolds, it is essential for all parties involved to act with caution and respect for the rule of law to prevent further escalation of the situation.
