KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 28 (Bernama) -- UMNO Youth has embarked on a humanitarian aid mission to help flood victims in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang.
UMNO Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh said almost 50 members of the movement and the Skuad Sabil would be involved in the first phase of the mission lasting until Sunday.
“The type of assistance to be provided includes the deployment of a boat in Pasir Puteh, Kelantan, which will be used by the Skuad Sabil to help flood victims in Kelantan and Terengganu.
“Apart from that, essentials like mineral water, dry food and toiletries will also be given to the flood victims,” he said at the flagging off for the UMNO Youth flood relief mission to East Coast states at the Menara Dato’ Onn lobby here today.
Dr Muhamad Akmal said the first-phase team would gather in Pasir Puteh to begin their aid mission in flood-hit areas in the East Coast states.
“Tomorrow, we will be in Besut, Terengganu as well as Tanah Merah and Pasir Mas in Kelantan and we will help to clean up houses in places where the floodwaters have receded,” he said, adding that the first phase of the mission would cost about RM40,000.
He said the second phase would be conducted on a scheduled basis by activating the whole of UMNO Youth to flood-hit areas in East Coast states to help victims in the process of cleaning up, moving and the like.
“Phase two will start after the floodwaters have subsided, with assistance involving clean-up of houses, places of worship or schools,” he said.
Dr Muhamad Akmal welcomed other parties including from the opposition to join forces with UMNO Youth to extend aid to the flood victims.–Bernama
