Kota Kinabalu: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) through its Confucius Institute has launched its first Academic Empowerment Programme for Bumiputera Students in Chinese Primary Schools of Sabah.

The Programme was officially launched via an online session at 2.30pm on May 12, 2024.

The programme was initiated by Confucius Institute, Universiti Malaysia Sabah and Association of Sabah National Type Chinese School Management Committee (Donglian Sabah) with the support and assistance from Changsha University of Science and Technology (CSUST), to provide a better learning environment for the non-Chinese students, especially for the bumiputera.

Statistics from Sabah and Sarawak has shown that the population of Bumiputera students in Chinese primary schools, is as high as 70pc in some suburban and rural areas, even rising to 100pc in a few locations.
